The Butcher | Showbiz in 2022: Lovelier the second time around for some (Celebrity Weddings of 2022)
Twenty-twenty-two could very well be the year of second chances at love in show business. Some celebrities who loved and lost in previous relationships were given another opportunity last year to find and wed what hopefully is their forever partner in life. Below are the showbiz personalities who tied the knot in 2022:
GEOFF EIGENMAN AND MARA FLORES
While ex-flame Carla Abellana was dealing with her failed marriage during the first quarter of 2022, Geoff Eigenmann tied the knot with singer Maya Flores on February 22 of last year (it was 2-22-22, in case you didn’t notice).
Geoff and Carla were actually in a serious relationship that began on the set of the local adaptation of Rosalinda. They were together for four years before they broke up. In time, they found new romantic partners – with Carla marrying Tom Rodriguez, but divorcing him shortly after.
In the case of Geoff, he began dating Maya in 2016. They had three kids first before deciding to get married last year in Christian rites held at the Victory Church in Alabang. Actor-turned-pastor Bodie Cruz (the son of Tirso Cruz III and Lyn Ynchausti) officiated at the ceremonies.

LINDSAY CUSTODIO AND FREDERICK CALE
Lindsay Custodio, a singer and former cast member of Ang TV, left show business after she wed former Tanauan, Batangas vice mayor Julius Caesar Platon II in 2000. They were blessed with two children: Sean Christopher and Charisse.
On the second Sunday of November 2018, her husband called her up from the car telling her that he was on his way home. He also told her to get the kids ready because they were eating out. He was cruising the SLEX when he suffered a heart attack. Julius Caesar Platon was already dead by the time he was brought to the Asian Hospital.
It took Lindsay half a year before she could publicly discuss that tragic chapter in her life. She was only 40 when she got widowed.
Three and a half years later, she got another chance at marriage when she wed Frederick Cale before Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi.

DONITA ROSE AND FELSON PALAD
When Donita Rose and her then fiancé, Eric Villarama, announced their engagement on Startalk in 2003, they refused to kiss for the benefit of the camera. They held that relationship sacred and became intimate with each other only when they got married.
It was just unfortunate that their respective careers forced them to stay thousands of miles away from each other. Although they have a son, Joshua Paul, their marriage eventually collapsed – with their divorce finalized in 2016.
During the second quarter of 2022, Donita revealed that she had fallen in love again in the person of US-based singer Felson Palad. This romance culminated in Christian rites last September 24 in San Clemente, California.

WILMA DOESNT AND GERICK LIVELO PARIN
Among the celebrities who got married last year, Wilma Doesnt probably had the most bruises in her heart. She has three children from three different relationships. By her own admission, one wasn’t even a relationship. The men would just disappear from her life.
When she gave birth to her youngest child, it was her good friend Gerick who stood by her. No, they were just very close friends and never had anything romantic between them that time.
But as fate would have it, they ended up husband and wife. They got married in Tagaytay on May 24, 2022.

ERICH GONZALES AND MATEO LORENZO
Erich Gonzales is one of the loveliest faces in Philippine show business. In the movies, she had as leading man at one time no less than Thai matinee idol Mario Maurer. Among local stars, she has great screen chemistry with Enchong Dee.
But as it turned out, her leading man for life turned out to be young business tycoon Mateo Lorenzo. They got married on March 23, 2022 at St. James the Great parish in Alabang. It was a hush-hush affair.
The Lorenzos are said to own several businesses, including the Barcino restos and a popular doughnut chain.

YNA ASISTIO AND BULLY CARBONELL
The daughter of former Regal baby Nadia Montenegro and Caloocan City ex-mayor Boy Asistio, Yna initially gained fame in the indie movie Concerto. But it was her television exposure that made her popular.
As a celebrity, Yna had her own share of controversies, including one where she became collateral damage in the feud between her mother Nadia and her former talent manager, Annabelle Rama. She also had a high-profile romance with Mark Herras that was highly controversial.
Her life is more peaceful now that she is Mrs. Waldolf “Bully” Carbonell. They wed last August 8 at the Muntinlupa City Hall – with a small reception at the Vivere Hotel in Alabang. It was here where Yna announced that she was already with child. She gave birth to Ava Zafina last October 26.

SERENA DALRYMPLE AND THOMAS BREDILLET
Wasn’t she cute in her “isa pa” Jollibee commercial in the mid-1990s? Serena had more accomplishments after that: At age 8, she became the youngest Gawad Urian best supporting actress winner for Bata, Bata, Paano Ka Ginawa.
Tragedy, however, took over her life after her mother, the well-loved Wilma Billones died from an unexplained illness in 2000. Her Scottish father Robert Lloyd Dalrymple died sometime in 1995. Those two deaths left her an orphan, along with two older sisters, Sara and Samantha.
For a while, the Dalrymple girls continued with their studies at OB Montessori. Mercifully, their parents secured their future and they didn’t have to worry about finances.
In time, Serena simply faded away from the scene. She and her siblings went on with their lives quietly in America. Serena totally gave up her showbiz career – returning only to do two editions of the hit movie series Ang Tanging Ina.
It would seem, however, that local showbiz had lost Serena forever. Last October 3, she married Thomas Bredillet in a garden ceremony in Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. They met through an online dating app. That was four years ago.

JASON ABALOS AND VICKIE RUSHTON
They are another lovely couple who waited awhile before getting married. Urian best actor winner Jason Abalos waited and patiently supported Vickie Rushton through her pageant journeys.
The couple wanted to get married early in 2022. But then, that was when the COVID cases spiked. The wait was worth it, however. Their patience was rewarded with a beautiful wedding at the San Antonio de Padua parish church in Nasugbu in Batangas.

KRISTOFFER MARTIN AND ALLYSA BANZON
It was lovelier the second time around for them. Kristoffer and Allysa dated for about seven years before breaking up in 2020. They reconciled, however, the year after. The two decided to get married in civil rites in Capas, Tarlac in February 2022. They have a daughter named Precious Christine.

ALYSSA GIBBS AND ANTON CRUZ
The daughter of Janno Gibbs and Bing Loyzaga, Alyssa had a brief stint as a child star in the mid-1990s. She pursued singing, which was a natural course for her as Janno Gibbs’ offspring. Her great-grandmother, Fely Valljeo, was the Philippines’ singing sweetheart before the war.
But Alyssa’s singing may take a backseat now that she Mrs. Anton Cruz. She and Anton got married in Australia last November 27. They were engaged for five years prior to their altar date.

LUCHO AYALA AND EMMA RUEDA
Lucho should be a familiar face to Kapuso viewers. He is often cast in bad guy roles. He played his most important role – as a dashing groom this time – when he married model Emma Rueda on April 2, 2022 at an events place in Silang, Cavite.

CHAMP AND CLAIRE NERY
Born Arthur Bernard Lui Pio, he gained fame as the vocalist and guitarist of the popular band Hale. As to be expected female fans swooned over him. But it’s too late, girls. Champ married Claire Nery at St. James the Great Parish in Alabang in January 2022.

MORISSETTE AND DAVE LAMAR
Theirs is another union united by music – having found each other first at a musical competition. For their wedding they chose a rustic theme, which was perfect for the venue, the Old Grove Farmstead in Lipa City in Batangas.
