Jose Mari Chan, tinawag na ‘’magical" ang recording collaboration ni Lea Salonga at ng grupong Pentatonix sa kanyang ''Christmas In Our Hearts''


Ni-reveal ng veteran music artist na ang Tony award-winning Miss Saigon star na si Lea Salonga ang original choice niya para kumanta ng female part ng "Christmas In Our Hearts." Pero dahil nakakontrata si Lea sa ibang record label that time, ang daughter ni Jose Mari na si Liza ang kinuha niyang maka-duet sa "Christmas In Our Hearts." Ngayon ay parang natupad na rin ang wish ni Jose Mari na maawit ni Lea ang "Christmas In Our Hearts" through her collab with the Grammy-award-winning a cappella group na Pentatonix. “It was pre-destined. I guess I was always meant to record it somehow so when the ‘ask’ came in, I said yes. It was not a difficult yes to say,” sey ni Lea.

Masayang-masaya si Jose Mari Chan sa ginawang collaboration nila Lea Salonga at ng Grammy Award-winning a cappella ensemble na Pentatonix sa kanyang classic Christmas song na “Christmas In Our Hearts” para sa kanilang Holidays Around the World album.

“To me it was magical, because it’s like a different take of my song. I really hope long after I’m gone, that version will continue to touch people’s lives,” sey ni Jose Mari na kilala bilang Father of Philippine Christmas Music.

Kuwento pa ni Jose Mari, si Lea ang nagsabi sa kanya tungkol sa magiging collab nito with Pentatonix: “She messaged me and said, ‘Guess what I’m singing your song with the Pentatonix, the three-time Grammy awardee group.’ So I said, ‘What?’ She even messaged me that the first time she heard the arrangement, she was floored.”

“Lea was my first choice to do that recording with me. Unfortunately her recording company that time didn’t want her to cross label,” sey ni Jose Mari.

Dahil nakakontrata si Lea sa ibang record label that time, ang daughter ni Jose Mari na si Liza ang kinuha niyang maka-duet sa “Christmas In Our Hearts.”

Ang “Christmas In Our Hearts” ay hango sa Christmas album ni Jose Mari with the same title na produced and released ng Universal Records noong November 17, 1990.

Bumenta ng higit sa 600,000 units sa Pilipinas ang album noong 2006 at nabigyan ito ng Double Diamond designation ng PARI (Philippine Association of the Record Industry). 

Ito pa rin ang biggest-selling album sa Pilipinas dahil umabot na ang sales ng album sa 800,000 copies.

Ngayon ay parang natupad na rin ang wish ni Jose Mari na maawit ni Lea ang “Christmas In Our Hearts.”

“It was pre-destined. I guess I was always meant to record it somehow so when the ‘ask’ came in, I said yes. It was not a difficult yes to say,” sey ni Lea.

Napablib ang Pentatonix na binubuo ng vocalists na sina Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee sa “Christmas In Our Hearts” dahil pang-global daw ang mensahe nito.

“The first time I heard that melody, it felt so iconic to me and also just lyrically to what it’s saying. This song is purely about love and where it came from and we have to keep that love in our hearts constantly,” sey ni Olusola.

“The verse has a magical almost spooky (singing in tune) like I can see the lanterns when I hear it, it’s so anthemic and huge and epic and beautiful and dream type of song for us to arrange,” sey naman ni Hoying na ang fiancé ay isang Filipino.

Nag-shoot din ng music video sina Lea at Pentatonix na malapit na ring i-release.
