Taylor Swift won Video of the Year for All Too Well. She also set two records with the win: becoming the only artist ever to win three VMAs for Video of the Year and the first artist to win for a video they directed. Meanwhile, her ex, Harry Styles, won Album of the Year for Harry’s House.
The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards or VMAs held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey and the program was opened by American rapper Jack Harlow with Fergie performing “First Class” and “Glamorous,” followed by a performance from Lizzo.
Other 2022 VMA performers include Eminem and Snoop Dogg, Bad Bunny, Kane Brown (the first male country artist to ever perform at the VMAs), Anitta, BLACKPINK, J Balvin, Måneskin, Marshmello x Khalid and Panic! At The Disco.
Taylor Swift won Video of the Year for All Too Well. In her speech, she revealed she is dropping her new album on October 21, with more details coming at midnight later that night.
Taylor also set two records with the win: becoming the only artist ever to win three VMAs for Video of the Year and the first artist to win for a video they directed.
Swift also won the VMA for Best Longform Video for All Too Well (10 Minute Version; Taylor’s Version) starring Sadie Sink, whom Swift thanked in her speech, as well as the Best Direction award.
Taylor’s ex, Harry Styles, won Album of the Year for Harry’s House. Styles accepted the VMA at Madison Square Garden, where he was scheduled to perform that night.
Lisa beat out the likes of BTS to take home the VMA for Best K-pop, though BTS was named Group of the Year (they were not in attendance).
Lil Nas X and Harlow won best collaboration for Industry Baby while Lizzo won the VMA for Video For Good for About Damn Time.
Bad Bunny became the first Latin artist to win Artist of the Year, moments before performing live from Yankee Stadium as part of his Bad Bunny: World’s Hottest Tour, marking MTV’s first-ever live remote VMAs performance to air from the stadium.
Dove Cameron was named Best New Artist.
Nicki Minaj also received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, while Red Hot Chili Peppers took home the Global Icon Award
As a surprise, controversial actor Johnny Depp made a few brief appearances with his face digitally superimposed on top of the helmet of a floating astronaut (the VMA trophy, nicknamed “Moon Person,” is shaped like an astronaut).
“I needed the work,” Depp jokes.
Instead of a traditional host, this year’s ceremony featured three “emcees”: LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj, and Jack Harlow.
