Cameron Diaz is officially unretired!

After eight years, Cameron Diaz is coming out of retirement!

Diaz was last seen playing Miss Hannigan in the 2014 version of Annie with Quvenzhané Wallis, Rose Byrne, and Jamie Foxx. Now, she is back to star in a new Netflix film titled Back in Action with Foxx.

According to People, the action-comedy is the perfect movie project for the 49-year-old actress to make her return with, as she worked with Jamie in the past and had a blast: “She feels a bit rusty and nervous about it, but mostly excited. She is ready to tackle this movie project.”

In an audio from a phone conversation shared by Foxx, Diaz can be heard telling him: “I feel excited but I don’t know how to do this, you know?”

Diaz also shared the audio clip to her Instagram Story, writing, “@iamjamiefoxx only you could get me back in action! I can’t frickin wait it’s gonna be a blast!”

Foxx and Diaz didn’t spill any other details about Back in Action, but the title suggests they’ll both be in fighting shape for the film.

It’ll be Diaz’s first action-heavy role since 2010’s Knight and Day, which paired her with Tom Cruise. The actress stepped away from acting in 2014, pursuing other opportunities from writing books to launching the organic wine brand Avaline.

In 2015, the star of There’s Something About Mary married musician Benji Madden, and the two welcomed their daughter, Raddix, four years later.

Diaz officially announced her retirement from acting in 2018 after her friend, Selma Blair, accidentally broke the news in an interview with the U.K.’s Daily Star Sunday. She elaborated on her decision in a 2021 interview with Kevin Hart on his Peacock series, Hart to Hart.

“When you do something at a really high level for a long period of time, when you’re the person that’s sort of delivering on this one thing, everything around you, all parts of you that isn’t that, has to sort of be handed off to other people. Just, the management of me as a human being … Cameron Diaz is a machine. But for my personal, spiritual self, I was realizing that one part of me that functioned at a high level wasn’t enough.”

On her acting comeback, Diaz got the support of her biggest cheerleader, husband Benji Madden.

The 43-year-old Good Charlotte rocker was excited to know that his wife will be acting again. He said: “I’m excited for her. I actually encouraged her to unretire.”

Diaz has praises for her musician husband: “He’s really taught me to value myself a lot more. I was receiving so much validation elsewhere and in all these other ways. But with our marriage, I learned how to really go all in. You know what I mean? … Nothing else comes before this. It’s not hard to do, because it’s the most valuable thing I have. We know that, no matter what, we can just go and be just a family anywhere, and we’re fine. We don’t need any of the things that we have, other than each other.”

Diaz had long dating history before meeting her husband. She was in a relationship with Elon Musk (2013), Alex Rodriguez (2010-2011), Keanu Reeves (2009-2010), Paul Sculfor (2008-2009), Kelly Slater (2007), Jude Law (2006-2007), Justin Timberlake (2003-2006), Matt Dillon (1995-1998), Vincent D’Onofrio (1995) and Carlos De La Torre (1990-1994).

Diaz also had encounters with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs (2008-2012), Criss Angel (2007), Tyrese Gibson (2007), Robbie Williams (2003), Vince Neil (1995) and George Clooney (1995).

Born Cameron Michelle Diaz on August 30, 1972 in San Diego, California is of English-German-Cuban descent. She was raised in Long Beach, Florida and attended Los Cerritos Elementary School, and then Long Beach Polytechnic High School, where she was a schoolmate of Snoop Dogg.

While still attending high school, Diaz signed a modeling contract with Elite Model Management at age 16, and appeared in advertisements for Calvin Klein and Levi’s. The following year, at age 17, she was featured on the cover of the July 1990 issue of Seventeen magazine. Diaz also modeled for 2 to 3 months in Australia and shot a commercial for Coca-Cola in Sydney in 1991.

Diaz shared a bizarre experience during her modeling days in Paris that made her believe she was unwittingly served as a drug mule.

“I didn’t work a day. I was there a full year and I didn’t work one day. I couldn’t book a job to save my life. I got like one job, but really I think I was like a mule carrying drugs to Morocco — I swear to God. It was before TSA (Transportation Security Administration) or anything like that. It was like early ’90s. They gave me a suitcase that was locked that had my ‘costumes’ in it — quote, unquote.”

When Diaz arrived in Morocco, officials asked her who owned the suitcase, and whether or not it could be opened. She eventually told them it was not hers.

“All of the calculations in my head went running back, like ‘what the f*** is in this suitcase?’ I’m this blond-haired, blue-eyed girl in Morocco, it’s the ’90s, I’m wearing torn jeans and platform boots and my hair down, and this is really unsafe. That was my only job I ever got in Paris,” she recalled laughing.

In 1994, Diaz skyrocketed to fame after scoring a role in the Jim Carrey hit comedy film, The Mask. She soon became an international star and starred in big Hollywood films such as My Best Friend’s Wedding, Charlie’s Angels, Charlie’s Angels Full Throttle, Vanilla Sky, Gangs of New York, The Sweetest Thing, Being John Malkovich, Feeling Minnesota, She’s The One, Any Given Sunday, In her Shoes, Bad Teacher, The Green Hornet, Sex Tape, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, The Counselor, The Other Woman, There’s Something About Mary, Annie and the Shrek film series: Shrek, Shrek 2, Shrek The Third, Shrek Forever After, and Shrek The Halls.

In late 2013, Diaz published a health book, The Body Book: Feed, Move, Understand and Love Your Amazing Body. It was no. 2 on The New York Times Bestseller list in March 2014. She then released The Longevity Book: The Science of Aging, the Biology of Strength, and the Privilege of Time in June 2016. She has since invested in health and biotech startups, including Seed Health and Modern Acupuncture.
