AKTOR Chairman Dingdong Dantes sa issue ng K-Drama ban: “We should take inspiration from the economic framework of their [Korean] entertainment industry without copying the creative output.”


Hindi kinontra ni Dingdong Dantes ang naunang pananaw ni Senator Jinggoy Estrada ukol sa K-Drama ban, bagkus, ay sinabi niyang sang-ayon siya sa mga binitiwang pahayag ni Congressman Joey Salceda ng 2nd District of Albay. Aniya: “I agree with Cong. [Joey] Salceda that we should take inspiration from the economic framework of their [Korean] entertainment industry without copying the creative output. “They are doing a whole of country approach in supporting the arts, and that’s something that we can also do.”

Hindi rin nakaligtas ang Kapuso Primetime King na si Dingdong Dantes na mahingan ng kanyang opinyon o komento tungkol sa pinag-uusapang pahayag ni Senator Jinggoy Estrada noong nakaraang linggo.

Kaugnay ito ng diumano’y naiisip niyang ipa-ban ang mga K-dramas at iba pang foreign shows na makapasok sa Pilipinas para mas maiangat ang local film and TV industry.

Agad din namang nilinaw ng senador ang kanyang side. Wala umano siyang anything against K-Dramas. Napu-frustrate lang umano siya sa kalagayan ng ating entertainment industry na hindi pa nakababangon mula sa pandemya at napag-iiwanan pa dahil mas tinatangkilik nga naman ang mga gawang Korea at iba pang bansa.

Just the same, maraming mga celebrities ang nagpahayag ng kanilang saloobin ukol sa nanunang pahayag ng senador at halos lahat sila iisa ang paniniwala: na hindi ang pagba-ban sa mga foreign shows and movies ang solusyon para umangat ang ating mga entertainment products..

Sa naging renewal of contract ni Dingdong para sa MESA Restaurant kunsaan siya ang nag-iisang celebrity endorser sa nakalipas na apat na taon, naitanong din ng press kay Dingdong ang tungkol dito lalo pa’t siya ang chairman ng samahang AKTOR or League of Filipino Actors.

Hindi na sumagot dito ang aktor sa mga oras na yon bagkus ay nangakong magpapadala na lamang ng kanyang official statement ukol sa usaping ito.

Isa ang writer na ito sa napadalhan niya ng kanyang official statement na sinimulan nya sa pamamagitan ng pagbabanggit ng mg proyekto niya at ng asawang si Marian Rivera na hango sa mga foreign shows.  

“My wife loves K drama,” panimula ni Dingdong sa statement sent via text messaging. “We have made some K drama together in GMA. We met in a Mexicanovela remake. I recently did a K-drama remake both in TV and film.

“I understand that with digitalization, the stage for film and TV artists have instantly gone global. It is inevitable to compare.”

Naniniwala umano siyang malayo ang mararating ng Pinoy talents, given the proper tools. 

“But I have faith in the Filipino talent. I have belief in the capacity of our local talents that if given the proper tools—malayo ang mararating pa natin.”

Hindi kinontra ng aktor ang naunang pananaw ni Senator Jinggoy, bagkus, ay sinabi niyang sang-ayon siya sa mga inilatag na pahayag ni Congressman Joey Salceda ng 2nd District of Albay, who suggested: “Instead of banning K-pop and K-drama, let’s copy the economic strategies that led to its rise. Our content can and should be original. But our economic strategies don’t have to be. Let’s copy that strategy.”

Patuloy ni Dingdong: “I agree with Cong. [Joey] Salceda that we should take inspiration from the economic framework of their [Korean] entertainment industry without copying the creative output.

“They are doing a whole of country approach in supporting the arts, and that’s something that we can also do.”

Kaugnay nito, naglatag din siya ng kanyang mga suhesyon.

“Let’s begin by empowering producers by giving tax breaks. Let’s start by strengthening and streamlining government agencies which are directly in touch with the creative industry. Let’s continue empowering our local artists, because truly—pang- world class ang talento natin. 

“But let’s begin by having faith in our own, by loving our own as well,” pagtatapos n’ya.

His most recent work, the BL movie Love at the End of the World, was screened on Vivamax Plus. Nico Locco, Nicholas Timothy Fowler offcam, is an Italian-Canadian international model, actor, and host, currently living in the Philippines. He is known for the 2019 movie Sabado where he became the first foreigner to win a Best Actor in the Gawad Sining Awards and the first foreigner to win the award in a Philippine-based film competition.
